About Dr. Bará: Dr. Mauricio Bará is the principal veterinary consultant with over 23 years experience in the area of intensive animal health and production. He obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Brazil in December 1982.
Following graduation, Dr Mauricio Bará worked for a period of six years in El Salvador and Central America in the areas of health, production and reproduction of intensive dairy and beef cattle, swine, poultry and some work with rabbits, quails and goats.
After migrating to Australia in 1989, Dr Mauricio Bará entered and completed the Post-Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Studies in 1990 at the University of Queensland focusing in reproduction, swine, dairy and poultry medicine and production which resulted in a publication entitled "A study of the microbial flora of the anterior vagina of normal sows during different stages of the reproductive cycle".
In November 1991, having passed all the examinations, he received full recognition of his degree in Australia , currently registered in Queensland and NSW but able to register in any state or territory.
In 1992, Dr Mauricio Bará started consulting to the Pig Industry particularly in South east Queensland and also enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Queensland . His area of research culminated in a thesis entitled "Studies of the incidence, aetiology and effect on reproductive performance of vulval discharges in sows and uterine defence mechanisms during the oestrus cycle" from which he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of animal health and production in 1998. From 1996, his research interest also included disease eradication programs in particular Mycoplasma hyopeumoniae , Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Glasser's disease, Swine dysentery and Mange.
In 1995, Dr Mauricio Bará was given the task of developing the Swine Practice for the School of Veterinary Science of the University of Queensland and to carry out all practical sessions in relation to swine reproduction, medicine and production for the veterinary students. From 1998, he started lecturing Swine Medicine and Production and Swine Reproduction until 2004 when he decided to leave the University and start his own consultancy practice.
The practice is based in Brisbane , Queensland and currently services piggeries in New South Wales and Queensland . Swine consultancy services are also offered to Government and non-profit organizations. Dr Mauricio Bará has also been involved in projects around South-east Asia and with views of expanding further into the rest of Australia , South-east Asia and Latin America . |
