The training packages are also based on the same systematic approach of the Health, Reproduction and Productivity Solutions program.        •  Maximising Herd Fertility which is 8 hrs duration and covers:
                •  Intensive gilt management.

                • Seasonal infertility - Light and reproduction.
                • Feeding for maximum litter size.

       •  Delivering 25 pigs per sow per year which 8 to 9 hrs duration and           covers:
                •  Delivering 25 pigs per sow per year.
                • Buildings and management.
                • Pre-farrowing activities.
                • Farrowing.
                • Common problems and diseases of sows.
                • Litter activities.
                • Common problems and diseases of piglets.

       •  Marketing no less than 22 pigs per sow per year which is 8 hrs duration and           covers:
                •  Pre-weaning mortality less than 8%.
                • Pre-weaning and early post-weaning feeding and management.
                • Common post-weaning problems and diseases (4 to 10 weeks of age).
                • Common grower and finishers problems and diseases.
                • Effect of environmental variables in health and production e.g. stocking                   density, air space, air quality and hygiene.

       •  Marketing 99% prime pigs which is 8 hrs duration and comprehends:
                •  The effect of disease on growth rate and cost of production.
                • The effect of disease on backfat and income loss.
                • Efficient use of additives for improving performance.
                • Efficient use of additives for reducing backfat.
                • Proper sorting and weighting in order to maximise A1 grading.
                • What to do with runts and culls.
                • Avoiding residues.

These comprehensive training packages are the result of more than 12 years of teaching experience at technical, undergraduate and post-graduate level and have been designed to increase the understanding of all the management techniques that occur on a day-to-day basis on a farm and also to encourage discussion and participation.
